Is MS Project Still Relevant?

September 4, 2024

Yes, Microsoft Project is still relevant, but it has been rebranded and integrated into a unified app called Planner. This new Planner app combines the features of the original Microsoft Project, Microsoft Planner, and Microsoft To-Do into a single platform.

Integration into Planner

The rebranded Planner app can be accessed directly from Microsoft Teams, providing a centralized location for task and project management. The specific features available to you will depend on your subscription plan:

Basic Plans: Offer the core task management capabilities that were originally part of Microsoft Planner and To-Do.

Premium Plans (Project Plan 3 or Plan 5): Include the advanced project management features that were traditionally part of Microsoft Project, such as task dependencies, resource management, and budget tracking.

Relevance of MS Project Today

By integrating these tools into Planner, Microsoft has ensured that the powerful features of MS Project remain accessible and relevant, especially for users who need a comprehensive solution for managing both simple tasks and complex projects within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
